OUR STORY

I Lived IT Before I Could Explain It

The Curated Misfits didn't begin with a business plan. It began with years of noticing how people, culture, creativity and strategy work better when the right people are in the room.

I met one of my favorite collaborators in Hidden Beach Recordings internship, The Program. We went on and did amazing work with Taren Guy, Adoreé, Curtis Lewis, and Liberation.

A collaborative effort is what is needed for organizations and nonprofits to take it. With the organization/nonprofit, TCM can be the marketing solution. We can get results.

It was never a how-to problem.
It was a capacity problem.

Before the Curated Misfits

i have been doing this longer than i realized.

Hidden Beach Recordings. The Program. Listening parties at the coffee shop and conversation. Message boards buzzing with new music and new ideas. Early marketing. Early community. Early proof that culture moves when people feel seen.

I learned that marketing has always been about people before platforms. About trust before trends. About context before content.

Those early years taught me to listen for what matters–and to build spaces where people connect around it.

the moment it clicked.

i knew how to do the work.

that wasn’t the problem.

A nonprofit retreat in Santa Cruz revealed the truth: photography, strategy, podcasting, video, social media – the weight of it all – was sitting on one person’s shoulders.

When a videographer, photographer, and PR support entered the picture, the organization grew.

That’s when I understand the core issue wasn’t talent.

It was capacity.

What santa Cruz Taught me

01

Talent and capacity are not the same thing.

You can be gifted and still get buried. Capacity is what sustains the mission.

02

Strategy needs space.

It can’t be rushed between tasks. It needs room to breathe, analyzed and continuously changed through data.

03

specialists make each other better.

When experts collaborate, the work gets deeper and the message gets stronger.

04

collaboration has to be recognized as strategy.

It doesn’t happen by accident. It has to be designed, protected and resourced.
