one person was never supposed to be the whole team.

The Curated Misfits assembles identity-first brand and marketing teams for nonprofits, small businesses and founders.

Strategy. Messaging. Design. Photography. Video. Digital Marketing. Implementation. Built by specialists and connected by one clear blueprint.

It was never a how-to problem.
It was a capacity problem.

THE ORIGIN

Santa Cruz, CA

Before I had the language for it.

The Curated Misfits began before I knew what to call it.

I was working for a nonprofit whose mission and vision I deeply believe in. During the retreat in Santa Cruz, California, the CEO and I were butting heads–not because we didn’t care, but because we both cared deeply about what the organization could become.

At the time, I was responsible for photography, brand strategy, videography, recording and editing the podcast, scheduling social media posts, creating content and whatever else needed to be communicated that week.

I knew how to do the work.

That was not the problem.

I was only one person.

When we brought in a videographer, photographer and public relations support, the organization grew. The storytelling became stronger. Our reach expanded. More became possible.

The growth didn’t happen because one person learned to do more.

It happened because we started working together.

THE CAPACITY PROBLEM

YOUR MARKETING PROBLEM MAY NOT

BE A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.

IT MAY BE THAT TOO MUCH WORK HAS

BEEN GIVEN TO TOO FEW PEOPLE.

Many small businesses and nonprofits hire one person and expect them to function as an entire department.

Brand Strategist

Copywriter

Graphic Designer

Social Media Manager

Website Specialist

Advertising Manager

Data Analyst

Public Relations and more…

One person may have the ability to touch several of these areas. That doesn’t mean one person has the capacity to perform all of them well at the same time.

The problem is not always the person.

Sometimes the problem is the structure.

THE OVERLOADED EMPLOYEE

One person is responsible for an entire department and has no time to think strategically.

THE DISCONNECTED FREELANCER MODEL

Several people complete separate assignments, but nobody connects the work.

THE TRADITIONAL AGENCY MODEL

The client pays for significant overhead, rigid packages and layers of people they rarely meet.

The Curated Misfits was created to provide another option.
